VIT Grading System and FFCS

VIT University pioneered the Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS), which allows students to choose their courses, faculty, and timings based on availability and interest. Under this system, each course carries a specific credit value, and your performance is measured through continuous assessments, digital assignments, and semester-end examinations.

VIT uses a 10-point grading scale with letter grades ranging from S (Superior) to F (Fail). The grading is absolute, not relative, meaning your grade depends solely on your performance against predefined criteria, not on comparison with other students. This system is consistent across all VIT campuses including the flagship Vellore campus and newer campuses in Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati.

VIT SGPA Calculation Formula

SGPA = Σ (Credit × Grade Point) / Σ (Total Credits)

VIT assigns grade points as follows: S (Superior) = 10, A (Excellent) = 9, B (Very Good) = 8, C (Good) = 7, D (Average) = 6, E (Pass) = 5, F (Fail) = 0, and N (Not Completed) = 0. Your SGPA is calculated by multiplying each course's credits by the grade points earned, summing these products, and dividing by total credits attempted for the semester.
